Tube amps produce a warm, dynamic tone and a musical natural overdrive when pushed. They’re the studio and stage reference — but heavier, pricier, and they sound best at volume (not ideal for quiet flats). Tubes also wear and need occasional replacement.

Solid-state amps

Transistor-based: reliable, affordable, light and consistent. Modern solid-state amps sound very good, especially for clean tones and practice. They don’t have the organic « give » of tubes at high gain, but they’re virtually maintenance-free — a great default for beginners.

Modeling (digital) amps

Digital amps emulate dozens of classic amps and effects in one box. Outstanding versatility for the price, silent practice via headphones, and built-in effects make them the most practical choice for most home players today.
